F&R Cawley Ltd are proud to be at the forefront of new recycling and waste management technology enabling us to provide a full and complete service. The completion of a 40,000 square foot Materials Recycling Factory in 1997 has enabled us to move forward with our customers to provide the best possible service. This carefully designed facility ensures not only a streamlined and highly efficient operation but also a clean and comfortable working environment for the operatives. Because of the vast variety of materials coming through the facility much of the sorting must take place manually. Up to 30 operatives can be working at the picking stations, sorting and baling scrap metal, wood, cardboard, paper and plastics for reprocessing.
The company still operates from its original Wingate Road premises albeit much expanded. In 1999 the company acquired a third depot in Wellingborough allowing for further expansion into Northamptonshire. In early 2004 this depot expanded into the neighbouring premises and plans are in action to carry out more reclamation and recycling from this site.
F&R Cawley are always investigating new methods and technologies within the waste and recycling industry as well as new markets for recyclable commodities. The office recycling scheme, which began in the late 1990s has proved a great success with our customers as it allows everyone from the smallest to the largest companies to do their bit for the environment. In 2003 the scheme was expanded to encompass more materials including, newspapers and magazines, plastic cups and drinks cans among others.
With rapidly changing legislation affecting how companies dispose and treat waste F&R Cawley recognised the need to have a qualified member of staff to deal with special and hazardous wastes and consequently employ a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) to deal with these types of enquiries. This enables the company to offer a full range of waste management services from the simplest dry waste collection to contaminated site clearances.
Over half a century after its foundation, F&R Cawley is now firmly established throughout Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire as a leader in the waste and recycling field. The company operates over 80 waste collection vehicles and employs over 175 people as well as handling several thousands of tonnes of waste material per week, much of it packaging waste but also metals, wood and liquids. As more and more organisations become environmentally aware and opt for sustainable methods of dealing with their waste F&R Cawley are always happy to assist in deciding upon an environmental and waste strategy to suit individual businesses.
The company continues to move forward and look to the future and whilst it remains family owned and run has a new team of directors to help drive it on in an increasingly competitive market. Whilst the company recognises the need to move forward in order to remain ahead of its competitors the F&R Cawley ethos remains and will continue to be that of aiming to provide the best possible service to its customers.
